A Sofa/Movie Kind-Of Weekend

The weather this past weekend was beyond cold. The below minus Celcius temps in the teens wasn't the only reason making the weekend bone-chilling. The wind chill had a feels-like temperature in the high minus twenties, to reaching -30 yesterday morning. Brrr...

So what do you do on such a cold weekend? Grab a hot drink, a blanket, get comfy on the sofa, and watch a few movies.

My family's usual go-to movies are action and sci-fi. Though we do enjoy comedies, drama, and romance. We already crossed off Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spiderman, The Mummy, Transformers, Dunkirk, and Blade Runner 2049 from our watch list. All were great movies with the exception of Dunkirk and Blade Runner. Dunkirk just didn't make our favourite list, and my daughter who is a history buff found the movie disappointing. Blade Runner was much too long, and Harrison Ford's role was almost boring. Being a big fan of Harrison, I found his role almost minimal and lacking in action. But I highly recommend the other five movies.

This weekend, I took charge of the selection. My first choice was Crooked House, which is a detective fiction by Agatha Christie. I knew nothing about the movie, but the cover looked interesting. Well, the story line was just as interesting! The murder mystery/who-done-it will have you guessing right until the end. The cast was good and their interaction was filled with drama and humour. This is a must watch movie!

The second movie I chose, while scrolling through an endless list, was Same Kind of Different as Me. This movie was not at all what I expect, and I was pleasantly surprised. Based on a true story, this movie will capture your attention. Renee Zellweger doesn't look quite the same as Bridget Jones, but her acting is still as good. The whole cast is good. Such a touching story.

So, if you're wondering what to watch this week, I recommend Crooked House and Same Kind of Different as Me. They are both well-worth watching movies.
